Eastleigh First Avenue in Nairobi County will be renamed to Yusuf Haji Road in honor of the late Garissa Senator, Yusuf Haji.
Following the approval by the Nairobi County Assembly, members agreed to rename a road in Eastleigh to Yusuf Haji. Politicians saw the late as a prominent member and citizen who served the country in good faith.
Discussions were held with Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) over the process of renaming the road. The members therefore settled for the First Avenue road in Eastleigh.
Consequently, the Nairobi County Assembly Majority Leader, Abdi Guyo, says the road will be renamed as Yusuf Haji road in two weeks’ time.
In addition, Minority Whip Peter Imwatok said that Haji lived most of his life serving the country as he worked in public service. Imwatok suggested that Haji should be named after a road and not a lane which many will barely recognize.
Furthermore, Matopeni Ward MCA says the move to rename one of the roads in Nairobi will be an acceptable tribute to the late Garissa Senator.
Many politicians including the president paid their tributes to the late following his untimely death last month.
Mzee Yusuf Haji passed on at 80 years.
