William Ruto’s security withdrawal concern

William Ruto’s security withdrawal is raising great concern. A section of MPs allied to the DP have written to Inspector-General of police Hilary Mutyambai.

They claim that there is a plot to trigger chaos in their political rallies. They alluded that there was group targeting their rallies and requested the IG to investigate.

The police response through their spokesperson Charles Owino rubbished their clim. He added that there are 3 levels of security, the G-Company, Presidential escort and the recce squad.

The G-company guards his residences within the country, presidential escort takes care of his travel alongside elite recce squad.

In a letter dated 8th January 2021, the MPs raised fears over the reduced security in Ruto;s events. They referred to the DPs event at the coast last weekend and the chaos in Murang’a and Msambweni respectively.

In the letter, more than 100 Legislators confirmed six occasioned since the Kenol incident to last weekend\s coast visit.

Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika claimed that there was an intruder at hustler center where the DP was conducting a meeting. The MPs also protested about an alleged order to remove security from events attended by the DP thus exposing him.

The MPs encouraged Mutyambai to safeguard all citizens that attend the DPs rallies. They claimed there was a plot to start violence and target political leaders reminiscent of 1960s, 70s and 80s.

Owen Baya (Kilifi North MP) claimed the entire DPs coastal tour was without police protection. Mohamed Ali (Nyali MP) added they had to engage a private security firm at frère town.

Ms Kihika on behalf of Ruto camp demanded security officers at their meeting have uniforms and wear badges.

 They also asked the United States and international partners to keep an eye on the situation in Kenya.

Their statement also read that the international community should hold the government responsible to William Ruto’s security.
