What Is the Value of My Kidney? Kenyans’ Questions About Kidney Prices Are Answered By KNH

The Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) has officially rejected a slew of petitions from Kenyans seeking to sell organs to the country’s main referral hospital.

The hospital’s management says they’ve been getting a lot of requests from people who want to trade their kidneys.

‘How much for my kidney?’ is the most often asked question, according to the hospital’s social media accounts on Monday evening.

The KNH has underlined, however, that the sale of kidneys, as well as all organs, is still banned in the country, and that people can only donate voluntarily.

“Please note that organ sale is strictly prohibited and illegal. You can only donate out of free will,” said the hospital.

Kidney trade is one of the most lucrative clandestine industries, with brokers using social media to recruit donors, despite being illegal in many countries throughout the world.

South Asia is the world’s main transplant tourism hotspot, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), with India among the top kidney exporters.

Every year, it is estimated that over 2,000 Indians sell their kidneys, the majority of whom are foreigners.

The global demand for kidneys is far exceeding the legal supply, owing to an alarming rise in renal disorders, diabetes, and high blood pressure.

As a result, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Iran have established themselves as the world’s largest organ illegal market.

Other organs that sell for a lot of money include blood plasma, sperm, and hair.
