The Government fires the contractor of Wote stadium

The government has fired the contractor of Wote Stadium in Makueni County.

Sports CS Amina Mohamed

The Sports CS Amina Mohamed protested about the pace of works by Taphes & Nitram terming it as unacceptable.

The CS was with her peers from labor Simon Chelugui, Makueni County Commissioner Mohamed Maalim and Sports Kenya Chair Fred Muteti. Ms Mohamed said that the project, which is currently at 35%, will be taken over by the National Youth Service (NYS).

Amina insisted that they had given enough warnings to the contractor thus nothing left but take action. She also insisted that the contractor should refund the excess money to the government immediately.

While inspecting the facility, Amina said that the government has decided to give the project to the NYS. Two other projects will also be handed to NYS for completion in as little time as possible.

The fired contractor was supposed to deliver the multi-million amenity end of last year. However, despite the government paying 50% fees there was still no improvement on the ground.

She lamented the time spent inspecting the project and said the government is keen to keep the promises it made to the youth.

The Government allotted Ksh 350 Million to the 15,000 capacity stadium in June 2020 allowing works to resume. The Facility had differed since 2017.

This comes just a week after another contractor hired to renovate Iten Kamariny’s Stadium also got fired. Amina has given a chilling warning to other contractors working on sports arenas across the country.
