Police in Homa Bay County have arrested seven students for their involvement in an arson incident at Ober Boys Secondary School in Rachuonyo East Sub County on Monday morning.
The students are suspected of setting fire to a 167-dormitory capacity at dawn. One admitted to taking part in the arson.
The fire broke out while all of the students from the burned-out dormitory were in class for their morning studies.
Students in class noticed smoke coming from the dormitory and raised the alarm.
Firefighters from the County Government of Homa Bay were able to put out the fire before it spread to other buildings.
The property in the dormitory, on the other hand, had been reduced to ashes.
According to Homa Bay County Police Commander Samson Ole Kinne, the seven students arrested are suspected of being involved in the school fire.
According to Ole Kinne, the students were taken to Ringa Police Station for questioning, where one of them (a Form Two student) confessed to participating in the arson.
The students are being held at Ringa Police Station while police conduct further investigations.
Because all of the students were in class, no casualties were reported during the fire.
