Raila Justifies Decision to Avoid Presidential Debate

Azimio Presidential Candidate Raila Odinga, has justified his decision not to participate in the just-concluded presidential debate.

While running for office in Meru County on Tuesday, Odinga accused William Ruto of being tarnished by corruption charges and said a debate with him would give him a chance to clear up his history.

“Mimi siwezi enda kwa debate na mtu ambaye ameiba mali ya uma kiasi hicho…sitaenda…,” said Odinga.

Odinga claimed that debating Ruto would provide him (DP) the chance to spread lies and hide from the corruption scandal during the discussion that would be broadcast on television.

“Mimi sitaenda kubishana na mtu kama huyo yeye aningojee kwa debe tuonane hapo,” said Odinga.

The Njuri Ncheke elders, who welcomed him to their sacred grounds in Nchiru Tigania, invited the ODM leader back to Meru County.

To help the Azimio ticket win, Odinga and Karua held rallies in Tigania and Igembe. They mobilized the Meru region.

Odinga expressed confidence that his numbers would increase given the support of Kiraitu Murungi, Peter Munya, and other candidates from the area.

Odinga refused to budge and ruled out the prospect of being on the same platform as Ruto while being accused of high-level corruption.

The leader of the ODM Party expressed his condolences for the 35 victims of the Nithi bridge disaster and declared that his first task as president would be to restructure the road and the Nithi bridge to put an end to the bloodshed.
