Pastor and Sheikh are Accused of Gang Raping a Woman in Kakamega.

In an Eldoret court, a preacher and a sheikh are accused of gang-raping a woman in Lugari, Kakamega County.

On Monday, July 4, Danson Malea of the African Divine Church (ADC) and Sheikh Stephen Barasa debunked the accusations in front of Eldoret Resident Magistrate Grace Barasa.

They were each freed on a Sh500,000 bail with a Sh500,000 surety.
The alleged crime was done on August 2 and 3, 2019, in coordination with others who are not in court.

The two were also accused of abusing the victim and performing an act depraved of her without her permission.

A third count of theft from the victim was brought against the pair.

They are charged with taking Sh700 in cash and a Tecno phone worth Sh7,000.

One of the suspects had his phone recovered.

The woman was allegedly tortured by the two for several hours until three in the morning in Lumakanda Township, Lugari Sub-County, Kakamega County.

The complainant told the court that while her two young children, ages two and five, looked on in horror, the defendants and their accomplices repeatedly raped her.

She received care at Eldoret’s Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH).

The accused rejected the accusations and was released on a Sh500,000 bond with the same guarantee when the matter was first brought up in August 2019.

On Monday, three important witnesses gave testimony.

The arresting police officer, the investigating officer, and a doctor from MTRH were the last three witnesses, and the court ordered them to testify at the upcoming hearing on July 25.
