Nyaribo took over the Governor seat after the death of John Nyagarama. Nyagarama succumbed to complications caused by Covid-19.

Both Nyagarama and Nyaribo were elected in 2013. The deputy managed to hold his seat for the past eight years.

In addition, Nyaribo will remain in office until the next elections. He is the fourth deputy to take office after the death of four governors since 2013.

According to reports, the late Nyagarama and Nyaribo had a rough relationship thus Nyaribo sought to illegally dismiss the CECs after the late Nyagarama died.
