Nigeria: 18-year-old arrested for faking her own kidnap

In Lagos Nigeria, an 18-year-old, Ujunwa Offiah, has been put behind bars for faking her own kidnap. According to police, the 18-year-old demanded ransom from her family.

An 18-year-old fakes her own kidnap

Offiah is charged with plotting with her boyfriend to stage her kidnap and make her family pay up to (US Dollars 79, 336) 30 million naira.

However, the ransom was negotiated to (US Dollars 1,851) 700, 000 naira.

Police also say that Offiah was apprehended and her accomplice, Precious Chukwu, a 22-year-old as the ransom was being dropped.

Hakeem Odumosu, the police commissioner of Nigeria states that it was a case of staged kidnapping and conspiracy. In addion, Odumosu says that Offiah’s boyfriend, who is an Uber driver, is still on the run.

Odumosu also says that they are on the lookout for her boyfriend but they are yet to know who he conspired with.

It is common in Nigeria to hear cases of kidnapping, most especially the southern Nigeria. Well-known Nigerians have been kidnapped now and again for ransom in current years. However, once ransom is paid, the kidnapped are released unharmed.
