
Omala is a form four students at Kisumu Day Secondary School. He signed a five-year contract with Gor moving from Western Stima as Gor continues to reinforce their squad for the next season.
The teenager is facing quite a tight balance between his books and league matches, owing to the fact that Gor has its base in Nairobi.
The 17-year-old skilled player and attacker had an easy time playing for Western Stima the club had its base in the lakeside city and more of its matches were at Kisumu’s Moi Stadium, just a short distance from his school.
Omala sees the elephant in the task ahead though he agrees that he is determined to work hard in studies and boast and reproduce the good performance he had at Western Stima with Gor in KPL.
‘I am looking forward to achieving a lot with my team and at the same time excel in my bookwork. The coach will draw a program for me so that I can also do similar to other training in Nairobi, arrangements are also underway on how I would feature in the league games, including traveling logistics,’ said the optimistic Omala
“I am really positive that everything will work out well so that I can feature in as many KPL matches as possible and boast my performance by scoring many goals for K’Ogalo. It has been dream now true to play for this team,” added the teenager.
Omala was in sparkled for Stima last season, scoring nine league goals before COVID-19 brought the season to a premature halt. He-the Ex- Manyatta United striker became a juvenile player to win the KPL Player of the Month Award as he was crowned the best for the month ended December 2019.
Omala however wouldn’t be the first student to feature in the league while at the same time in school.AFC Leopards legendry Peter Lichungu, Micky Weche, and Mike Amwayi turned out for the now inoperative Motcom FC while studying at Kakamega High School. In 1981, the triumvirate played in the Kenyan Secondary School Games while they were still at Dotcom.
The fallen Hamisi Shamba and Hamisi Gideon also played for Kisumu Hot Stars while studying at Kisumu Day High School while Nahason Oluoch Lule and Peter ‘Pierre’ Ochieng’ also played for Gor Mahia in the years 1978-1981 while at Highway High School in Nairobi.
