In a statement sent to newsrooms, he mentioned the addition of some 10 more months indicating 31st December 2021 as the new deadline.

The Interior Cabinet Secretary attributed the new deadline to disruptions due to Covid-19            . He further added that by 1st January 2022 the old blue passport will be null and void.

No Kenyan citizen will be allowed to travel internationally without a valid biometric East African e-passport.

Dr. Matiang’i warned that this will be the final extension urging Kenyans to put some effort into getting the e-passports.

The statement also read that the delay in the migration was occasioned by Covid-19 because departments had to scale down.
