Matiang’i Declares July 11 to be a Public Holiday

Dr. Fred Matiang’i, Interior Cabinet Secretary, has announced July 11, 2022, a public holiday.

Monday would be a holiday to enable for the commemoration of Idd ul-Adha, Matiang’i announced in a gazette notice published on Friday.

“IT IS notified for general information that in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 3 as read with section 2 (2) of the Public Holidays Act (Cap. 110), the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Co-ordination of National Government declares Monday, 11th July, 2022 a public holiday marking Idd–ul –Adha,” reads the Gazette Notice dated July 8, 2022.

The Feast of the Sacrifice, also known as Id-ul-Adha, is the second and largest holiday in Islam.

This day honors the Islamic Prophet Ibrahim, also known as Abraham, for his willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail in accordance with Allah’s mandate.
