Mama Ngina Kenyatta Collected her 2019 Macky Sall Award for Dialogue on Sunday from Defense CS Monica Juma.

The award was presented on 11th December 2020 in Dakar, Senegal at the African Museum of Black Civilization. Dr. Juma received it on behalf of Mama Ngina who could not travel due to Covid-19 pandemic.

The prize is awarded annually to African individuals who use conversation to turn away conflict in the African Continent. The award is named after Senegal’s President Macky Sall who is honored as a great Mediator in Africa.

Mama Ngina was awarded the prize for quietly and consistently using conversation to put out electoral tension in Kenya.

Speaking at her Nairobi home where she received the award, she thanked CIRID for the remembrance. She said it was an honor to her country which has played a big role on peace in the region.

In her speech she mentioned that she didn’t know that there were people who recognized where Kenya has come from. She said that she was grateful and thanked Dr. Juma for collecting the award on her behalf.

The ceremony was attended by the First Lady Margaret Kenyatta, Dr. Juma, Foreign Affairs PS Macharia and PSC Boss Kinyua.
