L’Oréal reveals an AI-powered at-home system

L’Oréal has revealed an AI-powered at-home system that will make personalized beauty. The device has been developed by L’Oréal Technology Incubator.

The device is designed to provide on-the-spot skincare and cosmetic formulas. It can also make custom formulas for lipstick and foundation.

Nicolas Hieronimus, L’Oréal’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer, says the company is aimed at advanced technology to produce smart beauty products and services. He also adds that the technology will answer to the requirements of their users. Additionally, they plan to offer near-limitless personalization and accuracy in terms of beauty products.

L’Oréal is dedicated to be the leader in Beauty Tech and Perso is the next step towards that journey.

Guive Balooch, Head of L’Oréal’s Technology Incubator, says they are placing personalized technology right at the hands of their customers. In addition, he says customization mainly relies on information about one’s unique skin and preferences as well as the environment.

Perso aims at using AI to optimize the formulas. The device gets smarter as the user continues to use it.

So how does the Perso smart skincare system work?

1. Skin analysis: The customer opens the Perso mobile app and takes a photo with their smartphone camera. The app will therefore use AI technology to examine the user’s overall skin condition. It will check on dark spot appearance, pore visibility, wrinkles and fine lines.
2. Assess the environment: Perso will assess the environment using the Breezometer geo-location data. The device checks on conditions like UV.
3. Preference of product: Different users have personal skincare concerns. This information will be entered by the user on the app. One can add information like preferred hydration-level and texture to customize their unique formula of serum, moisturizer, and under-eye cream.
4. Formulation and dispensing: Data collected informs the device of a personalized blend of high performance skincare. In a perfect potion, the single dose will dispense at the top of the device for an easy application. The device will adjust for a morning and evening application. It also has a detachable mirror at the stop so that users can either take a single or large dose on-the-go.
