Deputy President has been making tours around the country to gather support for his 2022 presidential dream.
DP Ruto’s alias ‘hustler king’ inroads into the Nyanza region appear to be taking a clean shape as he seeks to penetrate ODM leader Raila Odinga’s yard.
Mr. Ruto is expected to tour Kisumu next week. His point man in the region is Mr. Eliud Owallo, Mr. Odinga’s former strategist, who also recently ditched Mr. Musalia Mudavadi’s ANC.
Ex-Kisumu Trade and Industrialization executive Richard Ogendo, who hosted the DP’s allies in Dunga recently is another Ruto point man.
The hustler cohort given a close check has most former ODM loyalists who fell out with the party.
The youth are walking the talk as presently, two groups are championing the DP’s cause in the region; The Nyanza Youth Movement for Ruto 2022 and the Nyanza Young Aspirants Movement for William Ruto 2022.
Reports from sources close to Dr. Ruto say the two groups will receive the DP in Kisumu next week on a tour that will see him visit a few churches. He will be holding fundraisers and later distribute donations to women and youth groups.
“We want the Hustler to know that we are behind him and we are glad he honored our invitation. We have been holding meetings to plan for the visit,” Mr. John Odenyo, the secretary of the Nyanza Youth Movement for Ruto 2022 said.
Mr. Odenyo said youths in the region subscribe to DP’s viewpoints saying that they want to move from conservative to progressive and liberal politics that will bring development to their people.
Members of the movement accuse the ODM party of sidelining them for years a reason that has made them chart a new political path. They are asking ODM to stop criticizing the DP for his empowerment initiatives.
Mr. Fredrick Oduor –led; The Nyanza Young Aspirants Movement for William Ruto 2022, said that the youth are attracted to the DP’s leadership style.
However, the ODM party leadership in Kisumu, through Prof Ayiecho Olweny, has belittled the planned visit, saying, it would not affect the region’s politics in any way.
“He is free to visit, but the party’s support base will remain unshaken,” said Prof Olweny, the ODM county co-ordinating committee chairperson.
“No one would interfere with the DP as he charts his course,” he said.
