Intoxicated Police Officer seen in a viral video Commits Suicide as a Disciplinary Investigation is Opened.

A Nairobi-based police officer who appeared to be intoxicated in a viral video was apparently found dead by suicide after the Buruburu OCPD opened a disciplinary investigation into him.

Constable Harrison Mugo was found dead at the police canteen on Thursday, July 7, at around 6:30 am, according to a police report submitted at the Buruburu Police Station, where he was located.

“The body had no visible physical injuries and no suicide note was found,” police said, adding that the deceased’s body was moved to Mama Lucy Hospital mortuary awaiting autopsy.

On Wednesday, a video of Mr. Mugo acting in an unruly and intoxicated manner while wearing a police uniform went viral.

The National Police Service (NPS) issued a statement denouncing the constable’s conduct as improper, intolerable, and unprofessional.

“A uniformed police officer is a visible representation and face of government and is required to remain extremely disciplined and professional while on duty and off duty,” said NPS in a statement.

The body headed by Bruno Shioso also declared that disciplinary action would be taken against him.

The incident has been addressed, and the matter is being handled internally by the Buruburu Police command.
