Housekeeper Allegedly Stole Ksh.4M in Cash and Ksh.500K in Jewelry from her Employer before going Missing.

A 45-year-old housekeeper who is suspected of fleeing with Ksh. 4 million in cash taken from her employer’s home in Karen, Nairobi, is being sought by police.

On Wednesday, June 22, Miriam Mwelu Muinde’s employer is claimed to have come home from work to discover that she was missing together with cash and jewelry valued at roughly Ksh. 500,000.

According to a police report on the occurrence, the husband had put the Ksh.4 million on their clothes.

“It was reported by Charity Waithira Mungai that upon return from work at around 1500 hrs she found the house girl missing, and upon checking in the house, she realised that her jewellery worth about 500,000/- and cash Ksh.4 million which had been placed on top of their wardrobe by her husband one Nelson Ributhi Gaichuhie, missing as well,” reads the report.

On Wednesday, at 10 am, the housekeeper, 45, who is accused of stealing the money, is claimed to have turned off her phone.

Before switching off, her Safaricom line signal was last recorded in the Rongai area.

Mwelu, who had been left alone in the residence, is the major suspect because there was no evidence of a break-in when police officers arrived at the scene.

The incident occurs just a month after another housekeeper in Langata was charged with stealing Ksh 104,000,000 from her employer.

Shelmith Kiprono was detained in Eldoret after being apprehended after being arraigned in the Kibera Law Courts on May 30.
