On Monday, a train crashed with a lorry crossing railway tracks in Ruiru, Kiambu county, killing five people.
According to authorities, the vehicle conveying laborers was attempting to cross the tracks but misjudged the speed and distance of the approaching train.
Five of the lorry’s passengers attempted to jump from the vehicle to prevent the oncoming collision, but were knocked down by the train.
According to Kiambu County Police Commander Muchangi Kioi, five persons died on the spot, while 12 others are undergoing medical attention after suffering critical injuries.
Several images showed the aftermath of the awful incident; the lorry’s driver cabin, as well as the rest of its body, was utterly twisted.
The number of individuals in the vehicle at the time of the accident was not immediately known, with a flash crowd that assembled shortly after accusing police personnel of lying about more people being trapped beneath the train.
