“Enough is enough,” says DP Ruto in response to questions concerning the “appetite for land.”

On Tuesday night, Deputy President William Ruto defended himself against the notion that he has a “good appetite for land.”

The Kenya Kwanza flagbearer outlined how each parcel he owns was legally acquired.

“Allegations are made left, right and center, but every piece of land that I have has been legally acquired,” the DP said.

Dr. Ruto took advantage of the chance to explain how he acquired the contentious land in Turbo, Uasin Gishu that was previously owned by Adrian Muteshi when the land topic came up during the presidential debate.

“Land fraudsters sold the land to me [on Muteshi land], and I was their victim. They are currently in court. “The court ordered me to make restitution for the three years that I had been occupying the land, and they computed the income from this land and indicated the amount for three years would be about Sh5 million, so that’s what I paid,” he added.

Dr. Ruto made fun of Raila Odinga, the Azimio presidential candidate, by pointing out that he, too, had been the target of claims involving property.

Even my rival has been discussed in relation to the Dominion and Molasses lands (located in Siaya and Kisumu, respectively). Do you feel guilty as a result? Absolutely not,” Dr. Ruto stated.

He bemoaned the fact that he was likely the only politician in Kenya who had gone through multiple audits.

“I’m probably that politician in Kenya who’s been checked on everything from the inside out to the outside in. This ought to be adequate. Maybe it’s because I’ve raised my head higher than many people would have liked to see. I’m sure I wouldn’t receive the type of labeling I have, if I were a quiet businessperson,” the DP remarked.

Dr. Ruto has repeatedly questioned how he came into possession of his property, including the 2,500 acres he owns in Taita Taveta, the Joseph Murumbi-owned land in Trans Mara, and the plot on which the Weston Hotel, which is connected to him, is located.
