Covid-19 infections have been rising since the lockdown was eased by the President. Many Kenyans have since disregarded the Covid-19 regulations put forth by World Health Organization (WHO).
The Ministry of Health announced that from 4,675 samples taken, 551 new Covid-19 infections have been recorded.
This leaves the totality of infections recorded in Kenya to 84,169.
However, five patients have succumbed to the Covid-19 in the last 24 hours thus total number of fatalities recorded is 1,474.
Furthermore, a number of 266 patients have recovered. This includes 206 of those that were at Home Based Care and 60 who are discharged from different hospitals countrywide.
Additionally, 71 patients are in the ICU; 36 are on ventilators while 34 are on supplementary oxygen.
The Health CAS, Dr. Rashid Aman, says Kenya is active in participating in the AstraZeneca Oxford vaccine trials that are ongoing. They hope that there will be good progress on the study participants.
Aman, in addition, says that UK, India, South Africa, Japan, USA and Brazil are also participating in trials. They expect to vaccinate 60,000 study participants, for their trials, across the countries before the year ends.
Healthcare workers strike
Dr. Aman says the Ministry of Health will meet the officials from the Labor Ministry to discuss matters on a way forward concerning the strike notice issued.
He also says he does not want to avert the strike which is not currently required.
