MP Ong’ondo Were, Otiende Amolo, Rarieda MP, and Moses Kajwang’, Homa Bay Senator are disappointed that the Catholic Church is not agreeing to the signing of the BBI.

The Catholic Church, through the Conference of Catholic Bishops chair Philip Anyolo, claims the BBI report will create an imperial presidency in Kenya.

According to the Church, the BBI will as well generate a huge wage bill through an expanded Executive and Parliament.

In the course of the burial of Homa Bay County Council of Elders chairman, Odak Mbaka, the MPs said the Church is out of order on matters BBI.

In addition, Amolo says the BBI will not expand the Executive and Parliament in comparison to the present constitution. He adds that the BBI will only distribute the president’s power to his deputy, prime minister and deputy prime ministers.

Furthermore, he says the BBI has less MPs, cabinet secretaries, and the chief administrative secretaries compared to the present constitution.

Kajwang’ also adds that those opposing the BBI report should begin their own constitutional initiatives. Similarly, he says the officials cannot be put on the mode of examination of the report forever.

Were says they do not want any negotiations on the report, adding the document should be passed into law as soon as possible.
