Baringo County first to reject the BBI Bill

Baringo County first to reject the BBI in a day characterized by bill debate then chaos. Some reports say members had to flee when a teargas was thrown in to the Assembly.

The Assembly building also almost caught fire after a teargas canister exploded on the roof leaving sparks flying everywhere.

The afternoon session took a break for 30 mins after an altercation between Jubilee and Kanu MCAs interrupted the House.

Out of 40 Members, 30 voted NO, 5 voted yes and 5 did not participate in the voting process. Thursday evening saw Kabarnet full of tension immediately the Speaker of the Assembly David Kerich announced the results.

Reports indicate that Kanu MCAs accused their Jubilee counterpart of  plotting to shoot the bill down before Public participation. Things went south after Ernest Kibet was slapped twice at the back by the MCA for Mogotio Ward Charles Kosgei.

Thus far only Siaya, Kisumu and Homabay have passed the Bill which requires the support of atleast 24 Counties. After the counties then it can be tabled in the National Assembly then proceed to a referendum if it is ratified.

The proponents of the BBI led by Raila Ondinga (ODM) are confident the BBI will pass.
