Azimio Leaders Attack DP Ruto for “Slap Audio” Leak

Deputy President William Ruto’s alleged tape has sparked a contentious debate, with Azimio leaders now turning against Ruto and accusing him of being to blame for his break with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Ruto is heard in the recording saying that at one point he wished he could slap President Uhuru Kenyatta for his attitude after their 2017 election victory was declared invalid by the Supreme Court in response to a petition by then-NASA leader Raila Odinga. The recording was played in Ndhiwa during an Azimio rally.

Odinga and his crew were wrapping up their campaign tour in Nyanza when his allies began attacking DP Ruto over a leaked audio clip in which Ruto confesses to once wishing he could slap President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“Hayo maneno umesikia hapa deputy president wan chi nzima akizungumza ni aibu kubwa sana…” Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka said.

Allies of Odinga claimed in the leaked video that Ruto was to blame for his rupture with President Uhuru and that he had been lying the entire time that the handshake between Odinga and Kenyatta had weakened their political union during an Azimio rally in Ndhiwa Homa Bay county.

“Anataka kupiga rais wa Kenya kofi jameni na akipewa majeshi na polisi atafanya nini…amekuwa akisema ati handshake ndio iliharibu Jubilee kumbe yeye ndio aliharibu…” MP Junet Mohamed weighed in.

“Jamani tunakushukuru baba kwa sababu kumbe kama haungekuja handshake hatujui angefanyia nini rais wetu..”Raila ally Maina Kamanda added.

Odinga, who predominately talked in Dholuo, also targeted William Ruto, his major rival on August 9, and accused him of approving corruption while he was the agricultural minister under the grand coalition government.

“Report ya price water coopers iko na jina ya Ruto ndani inaonyesha yeye akiwa waziri wa kilimo alitumia marafiki kuuza mahindi  badala ya kuuzia kampuni za kusaga unga….” Raila said.

Odinga accused Ruto of running campaigns of deceit and running away from the corruption question.

“Yule jamaa wa Tanga Tanga viongozi wakifuatwa na ufisadi wanaema ati they are targeted that is deceit hawataki swala la ufisadi liongelewe,”

If chosen as the next Land Cabinet Secretary, Hassan Joho, a supporter of Raila and the governor of Mombasa, has also sworn to pursue all the land that has been ill-gotten.

In the phrase “Mimi nimepewa niwe waziri wa mashamba na nikiingia ofisini hivi..ruto shamba zote zimechukuliwa kinyume na sheria zitarudi kwa wananchi..”

Odinga endorsed Gladys Wanga as the Azimio candidate for governor to compete against former Nairobi governor Evans Kidero as his Nyanza visit came to a close.
