Willian Borges shared screenshots of texts he received from different users as he captioned the photos, “Something needs to change!” He was sad and heartbroken knowing that he is the best player but online trolls continue to pour hate because of his skin tone. In his caption, he added that “The fight against racism continues.”

Earlier, there had been reports of players being abused online due to their race. However instagram is working on ensuring a safe and racial abuse-free platform for the players.

Following the abuse of one of their players, Arsenal condemned the act saying that anyone who sends such messages and has a club membership will be banned.

One of the club spokesperson said that they will work together in order to drive out the behavior.  But he says that they require help and commitment from social media companies. In addition, those who racially abuse others will be punished considering the abuse affects a lot of people.

Currently, Willian is the second Arsenal player to face racial abuse after Eddie Nketiah who had received an abusive message on Twitter before a Europa League game.

Racial abuse on other Black players

Other black players from different teams who fell victims to racial abuse include, Romaine Sawyers, Axel Tuanzebe, Reece James, Alex Jankewitz, Anthony Martial, and Marcus Rashford.
