Anne Kananu Mwenda: Recently sworn in Deputy Takes over as Governor

Anne Kananu Mwenda has officially taken over as the acting Nairobi Governor. Mwenda has replaced Speaker Benson Mutura who was sworn in in December following impeachment of Mike Sonko.

Anne Kananu Mwenda says that currently the committee is working on the procedure for her swearing in as the Governor of Nairobi. Mwenda additionally told the press that they shall communicate once they finalize the procedure.

During the handing of office, she announced that she is committed to improving the delivery of services in Nairobi. She also stated that she is focused on bringing a spirit of mutual respect, cooperation, partnership, and collaboration with government organs.

In addition, she says that together with the Nairobi City County Assembly, they will engage the public to listen to each and every view that they have. This will ensure a good state of service delivery in the City as they look on measures to improve it.

Ms. Mwenda furthermore says that she will work hand in hand with Nairobi Metropolitan Services Director-General, Mohammed Badi to ensure delivery of services.

However, the rushed vetting and swearing-in of Mwenda has brought about mixed reactions among Kenyans and netizens. Some Kenyans commented on how Kenya is owned by the state while others stated that Jubilee feared losing the Governor seat to politicians from Deputy Ruto’s side.

Likewise, political analysts, journalists, and lawyers are still questioning the legality of the rushed swearing-in of Anne Kananu Mwenda.

Some of the party members have taken to court to question the legality of the swearing-in.
