The “Kanungo” hitmaker Otieno Aloka was arrested on Friday in Kisumu following his Facebook Live concert that was marked with vulgar language.
Aloka was summoned by the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) office in Kisumu to table a statement but was arrested upon reaching the police station.
The Kisumu Regional Manager, Kenya Film and Classification Board Kisumu, Mr. Edward Koech who addressed the media outside the police station confirmed the arrest of Aloka. Mr. Koech said that their move was anticipated by the complaint from Kisumu Woman Representative Rozah Buyu.
.“In our investigations, we found out that the song was not promoting good values that could foster growth among our children and that is why the artist was arrested and will be arraigned in court and charged as necessary,” said Mr. Koech.
Other claims indicate that Aloka the Mucisian had recorded a controversial concert without a filming license from the KFCB. He will be charged with the offence of displaying audiovisual content that was obscene and likely to corrupt the minds of children and young people.
Otieno Aloka’s arrest comes barely a few days after Dr. Ezekiel Mutua, KFCB chief executive, had also called for his arrest. Dr. Alfred Mutua had termed Aloka’s controversial Facebook concert perverted lyrics aimed at polluting the minds of children.
Mutua had indicated on his official Twitter handle that KFCB was already working with YouTube to have the song pulled down as soon as possible.
On the other hand, Kisumu County Lawmaker Rosa Buyu condemn Aloka’s live concert. According to her, the song is a disrespect to all women and girls across the world.
Her pressure saw took Aloka to social media to apologize. However, Aloka said that his Facebook live concert was directed to a Germany-based client.
