Uasin Gishu farmer, Adrian Muteshi, who gained popularity by taking the Deputy President to court, is dead. The farmer died at a hospital in Nairobi on Tuesday, October 27.
Muteshi had sued William Ruto, in 2010, over a 100 acre land which he claimed had been grabbed from him. He accused Ruto of forming a plan to grab his farm located in Uasin Gishu. He had fled his home due to violence to a secure location as an Internally Displaced Person.
Anthony Lubellah, his lawyer, was able to help Muteshi in his case against the then Minister. He spoke through his lawyer saying the accused had a meeting with two citizens. He went ahead to state that the citizens were paid Sh600, 000 to carry out the plan.
According to a court order in June 2013, Ruto was instructed to pay Sh5, 000, 000 to Muteshi for illegally taking away his land.
In mid-2017, William Ruto left the appeal against the decision that required him to pay the farmer. His lawyer, Katwa Kigen, told judges told judges Patrick Kiage, Agnes Murgor and William Ouko that the client was no longer interested in the appeal.
The popular farmer unfortunately died at the age of 86 but his cause of death has not yet been revealed.
